The video of protesters with notes has gone viral
Opponents can be seen counting notes in a video posted on social media. He says he received the money from the president’s official residence. Sri Lankan officials say an investigation is needed to understand the situation and find out the facts. Chief of Defense Staff (CDS) General Shavendra Silva has appealed to the citizens to extend their support to the security forces and police to maintain peace in the country. He made the remarks in a special statement with the commanders of the Tri-Force.
Meanwhile, Sri Lanka’s Tourism and Land Minister Harin Fernando and Labor and Foreign Employment Minister Manusha Nanayakara have said they have decided to resign from the ministry with immediate effect. Sri Lankan protesters also set fire to the private residence of Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe. There is a lot of anger among the people due to the economic crisis, for which the government has not yet been able to find a solution. To calm the crowd, security forces used water cannons and tear gas shells. Security forces have also attacked several journalists.
