Padmini Kolhapure on Esmayeel Shroff: He was a sensitive director- Exclusive | Hindi Movie News

Filmmaker Esmayeel Shroff, who passed away last evening, was a sought-after filmmaker from the 80s. One of his most popular movies was Thodisi Bawafaii, featuring Rajesh Khanna, Shabana Azmi and a young Padmini Kolhapure. With the passing away of the filmmaker, ETimes reached out to Kolhapure who expressed that her association with Shroff was more than memorable.

Recalling the time when she worked with Shroff, Padmini said, “I did Thodisi Bewafaii and Ahista Ahista with him. Ahista Ahista is very close to my heart. He seemed strict in his demeanor but he had a smiling face. He was very sure about what he wanted and he would put it across. We got along very well as actor-director. He was a very sensitive director. It’s a huge loss. He left his mark in the industry.”

Since Ahista Ahista was the most memorable experience for Padmini, we asked her to share some stories from the time of making the film. She revealed, “In Ahista Ahista, Shashikala tai, Nanda tai, Ashalata Wabgaonkar and I would always talk in Marathi. And Esmayeel ji would be like ‘What are you all talking I don’t understand?’ He was a man of few words. He was very calm and unassuming. I pray for the departed soul. There was a line in our film, Kabhi kisi ko mukammal jahaan nahin milta’.”
