SHO of EtmadpurSarvesh Kumar, on Thursday, said, “Usman Ahmed’s two daughters were getting married to Wakar Ahmed’s sons… An argument erupted between the families over ‘rasgullas’ not being served. Things turned ugly when youngsters from both sides started throwing plates and chairs at each other. They also used spoons and sharp-edged objects to attack the other side.”
The incident took place at a banquet hall in Etmadpur. The victim, Sanni, was stabbed in the ensuing melee. He was rushed to a local hospital where doctors declared him “brought dead”. At least a dozen guests, with stab wounds and bruises, were shifted to the hospital.
SHO Kumar added: “An FIR under IPC section 302 (murder) has been registered following a police complaint filed by the victim’s uncle. The victim belonged to Khandauli. Several persons involved in the brawl have been detained.”
One of the members from the bride’s side said that people were having food and enjoying themselves when all of a sudden due to an argument over a trivial matter, things went out of hand, resulting in the death of a young guest and ruining the entire happy occasion. SP (rural) Satyajeet Gupta said, “The matter is being investigated. A case of murder has been registered. We are now collecting more information from the venue.”
