Ashish Parmar, Junagadh: Many species of plants are becoming extinct nowadays. Many plants are still on the verge of extinction. Bharatbhai of Titodi village in Keshod is trying to save endangered medicinal plants and trees. Despite not owning land, Bharatbhai and his wife Nitaben are running this seed bank by renting land. Bharatbhai’s wife was hesitant when starting BJBank. But today this couple is earning lakhs.

Collected more than 350 indigenous seeds by circulating in 26 states

Bharatbhai said that today the indigenous seeds of agricultural produce are on the verge of extinction. Then I realized that we should maintain this tradition, so I traveled to 26 states. After this I have rented two farms.

In it, native seeds of vegetables, flowering plants and medicinal crops have been planted and produced. Having traveled to foreign states and studied the culture and nature of indigenous seeds, gained knowledge on how to cultivate the precious heritage.

Selling to farmers face to face

Bharatbhai procures indigenous seed products, sells them face-to-face with farmers. More than 350 varieties of indigenous seeds are currently available. A marketing system has been arranged in such a way that the farmers get the benefit of this variety. Good prices are fetched due to grading packaging of these indigenous seeds.

They give seeds to the farmers and produce them and after planting, they take the seeds back from the farmers. Bharatbhai said, My wife was hesitant when I started this seed bank. Now for the last four years they are supporting this work shoulder to shoulder.
