Indian Army to be withdrawn from Kashmir hinterland? Modi govt discussing proposal - report | Times Of Ahmedabad

The Union Govt is reportedly considering a phased withdrawal of army from Kashmir hinterland. According to Indian Express, Centre is discussing a proposal, talks related to which are at an advanced stage, to withdraw the Indian Army completely from the Kashmir hinterland, with presence only on the Line of Control. Quoting officials, the Indian Express said that the proposal has been under discussion for about two years but now involves talks with the Defence Ministry, Home Ministry, armed forces and J&K police. In August 2019, the Union government revoked special status granted to Jammu and Kashmir amid deployment of large additional troops.
