India's fresh digital strike on China; Modi govt blocks 232 apps over security threat | Details | Times Of Ahmedabad

In a major move, the Central government has blocked 138 betting and 94 loan apps with Chinese links on an “urgent” and “emergency” basis. The Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MEITY) carried out the action based on the recommendations of the Union Home Ministry. The apps contained material detrimental to the country’s sovereignty and integrity, which is why the government decided to block them. This is not the Modi government’s first crackdown on Chinese apps. In February 2022, 54 Chinese apps were blocked for allegedly obtaining critical permissions and collecting sensitive user data. Over 200 apps were also blocked in the year 2020 after the Galwan clash in eastern Ladakh. Watch this report for more.
