ASI Seeks 3 Wks: ASI seeks 3 weeks more to finish Gyanvapi survey | India News

VARANASI: The Archaeological Survey of India (ASI), which has already been granted five extensions by the district judge to complete its report on the survey of the Gyanvapi complex, on Tuesday sought a sixth one of three weeks to finish the job.
The ASI conducted its survey between July 24 (just for four hours) and November 2 as per the orders of various courts to ascertain whether the Gyanvapi mosque was standing atop a pre-existing temple.
On November 17, the agency sought the fifth extension of 15 days, but the district judge granted just 10 days and the deadline ended on Tuesday (November 28).
The court might take up the plea on Wednesday. The fresh plea of ASI filed on Tuesday says that technical reasons were consuming time and delaying the process of finalisation of the survey report.
Talking to TOI, standing government counsel (Government of India) Amit Srivastava said, “The ASI has sought three weeks to finalise its report on scientific study and survey of Gyanvapi mosque carried out in view of the July 21 order of the district judge court, which was affirmed by the order passed by the high court on August 3. All the technical reasons, which needed time for finalisation of the survey report by the ASI, are mentioned in this plea.”
