Hardik Pandya’s Mumbai Indians deal done, Shubman Gill likely new Gujarat Titans captain | Cricket News


NEW DELHI: With Mumbai Indians were still working out a deal with Gujarat Titans to buy back Hardik PandyaTitans kept Pandya in the list of retained players on Sunday. However, TOI understands that MI and Titans were working on modalities to trade Pandya which was completed late on Sunday. TOI had reported on Nov 25 that Hardik was in talks with Mumbai Indians to come back to his alma mater.
It has also been learnt that the Titans management have identified Shubman Gill as their captain if Pandya’s deal with MI formalizes.According to sources, the Titans management had a long meeting with Gill and have discussed their auction strategy. Mumbai Indians have also releasedCameron Green and will trade him to Royal Challengers Bangalore.
It is learnt that MI are ready to shell out a huge amount above Pandya’s existing salary of Rs 15 crore. MI will also be paying a hefty transfer fee for the deal. For that, the franchise needed to clear their purse. As TOI had reported on Nov 25, MI have released Jofra Archer to afford Pandya. Besides Archer, they have let go of Tristan Stubbs, Jhye Richardson, Riley Meredith and Chris Jordan.
Sunday was the last date for franchises to announce their retained players. However, the trading window will be open till Dec 12 which is a week before the IPL mini auction scheduled for Dec 19 in Dubai.
“The franchises were asked to announce their retentions so that the IPL officials could firm up the list of released players to form the auction pool. Trading is an understanding between two franchises about players who are not being sent into the auction pool. The Pandya deal should be announced soon,” a BCCI source told TOI on Sunday.
RCB, SRH, KKR release big names
In surprising moves, Royal Challengers Bangalore, Sunrisers Hyderabad and Kolkata Knight Riders released established names ahead of the auction. While RCB released leg-spinner Wanindu Hasaranga, Josh Hazlewood and harshal Patel to afford Green, SRH decided to part ways with England’s latest batting sensation Harry Brook. KKR also released big names like Tim Southee, Lockie Ferguson and Shardul Thakur.
DC look to hit reset button
Delhi Capitals have also decided to release a host of players as they look to hit a reset button ahead of the next season. They have let go of domestic talent like Manish Pandey, Chetan Sakariya, Sarfaraz Khan, Kamlesh Nagarkoti, Aman Khan, Ripal Patel and Priyam Garg. They also released overseas names like Rilee Rossouw, Phil Salt, Rovman Powell and Mustafizur Rahman. They will go into auction looking to rebuild the team.
