India’s Samudrayan mission will be a great success like Chandrayaan-3: President Murmu | India News

NEW DELHI: President Droupadi Murmu hoped on Monday that the ‘Samudrayaan mission’, India’s first manned mission to explore the deep ocean“will be a great success like the Chandrayaan-3 mission”, which made India the first country to land on the south pole side of the Moon.
Speaking at a ceremony at Paradip in Odishathe President said the Samudrayaan mission will study deep-sea resources and biodiversity in a depth of 6,000 meters.
Samudrayaan is aimed at developing a self-propelled manned submersible to carry three human beings to a water depth of 6,000m in the ocean with a suite of scientific sensors and tools for deep ocean exploration. It has an endurance of 12 hours of operational period and 96 hours in case of emergency. The manned submersible will allow scientific personnel to observe and understand unexplored deep sea areas by direct interventions.
The mission, which is expected to be launched in 2026, will also enhance the capability for deep sea man-rated vehicle development. If India is able to successfully launch the Samudrayaan mission, the country will join the elite club of China, France, Japan, Russia and the US with deep ocean travel capability.
Gracing the Boita Bandana (worshiping the boats) ceremony at Paradip in her home state, the President said India has a long coastline of about 7,500 km and the maritime business of the country plays a big role in the world economic activities. She said Indian ports need to be more equipped with better infrastructure and efficient workforce to meet different challenges in the field. She said the Centre is working on the theme of ‘Ports for prosperity and Ports for progress’.
The President also called upon youths to be job providers rather than job-seekers. She said they can shape their career in entrepreneurship and other business related activities to make their life and that of others better. This way, the President said, the country would soon be known as Atmanirbhar Bharat.
The President also virtually inaugurated a multi-model logistic park as well as laid foundation stones for new reservoir and water treatment plant for port township and next-gen vessel traffic management and information system.
