Like-and-earn scam: Man loses Rs 4L; 1 held | Mumbai News


MUMBAI: The LT Marg police on Saturday arrested a 23-year-old Rajasthan native for allegedly cheating a man of nearly Rs 4 lakh by offering him high returns on investment in a ‘subscribe, like and share’ task job fraud.
The arrested accused was identified by police as Ravindra Singh.
The complainant told the police that in January he received a WhatsApp message from one Prisha.The sender asked if the complainant was interested in a part-time job. When the complainant agreed, the person sent another message describing the job.
As per the sender, it was a marketing and advertising job where the complainant was supposed to ‘subscribe, like and share’ YouTube videos of celebrities.
The accused further asked the complainant to share the screenshot of the task on the same WhatsApp number. Later, the complainant received a bonus of Rs 150 in his account. Thereafter, the accused asked him to join a Telegram group and convinced him to invest money for huge returns. The complainant transferred the money to the bank account numbers provided by the accused and ended up losing more than Rs 3.7 lakh.
However, when the complainant failed to get back even his invested amount, he lodged an FIR.
The police said they are examining if more accused are involved in this case.
