The CBI had booked a chief parcel supervisor who allegedly received Rs 8 lakh bribe, another officer of the same rank who got Rs 5 lakh, three deputy station managers (Yard) along with 10 others in corruption cases. tnn

The Bombay high court refused pre-arrest bail to a policeman who sexually exploited his colleague and intimidated her with a pistol. The court stated that a consensual act does not justify continuous exploitation and granting bail would hinder the investigation and victim’s interests. The FIR was lodged by the colleague, accusing the policeman of attempted murder, rape, intimidation, and illegal possession of a firearm. The accused spiked her drink, raped her, threatened her, and even assaulted her family. The court found credible evidence and refused bail based on the persistent harassment and threats.
Court grants bail to two in Mopa gold smuggling case
A North Goa court has granted bail to Kamran Ahmed Gayasuddin Khan and Mohomed Irfan Gulamnabi Balapatel, two persons arrested in a gold smuggling case at Mopa airport last month. The investigating officer sought further custody for recording statements from five persons, but only two appeared. The accused have been in custody since October 22. The court stated that there is no evidence to suggest a threat to society if the accused are released on bail. The court has directed the accused not to leave the state without permission. The DRI Goa busted a gold smuggling syndicate and arrested three people last month.
