MUMBAI: The BEST took a proactive step on Mahaparinirvan Divas by setting up a special stall at Shivaji Park near Chaityabhoomi in Mumbai to raise awareness about quitting tobacco and preventing dengue.
Hundreds of people who had gathered to pay tribute to Dr Ambedkar benefitted from the stall, with over 1,000 receiving free health checkups and treatment, 550 obtaining free spectacles after eye examinations, and 400 pledging to quit tobacco.
Additionally, the BEST organized street plays to further educate citizens, and over 50 special buses were deployed, serving more than 2,000 passengers. Daily bus passes were made available for convenient travel throughout the city.
BEST chief medical officer Dr Anil Kumar Singal said that the stall also created awareness on prevention of dengue. “We conducted a free health check up and provided treatment to over 1,000 people. Also, 550 persons benefited with free spectacles after eye check up. Another 400 pledges to quit tobacco,” he said.
The BEST also conducted street plays to create awareness among citizens.
