Assassination: Retribution, grudge behind killing of Karni outfit chief? | India News

NEW DELHI: A convergence of various resentments seems to be at the heart of the assassination of Karni Sena chief Sukhdev Singh Gogamedi. The arrest and interrogation of the two alleged shooters – Rohit Rathod and Nitin Fauji – has revealed that the Lawrence Bishnoi syndicate had accused Gogamedi of abandoning the protests against the encounter of their close associate, gangster Anandpal Singh, in 2017 and allegedly usurping the funds collected in his name.
The proximity of Rohit Godara, Bishnoi’s Man Friday, to Anandpal’s daughter also seems to have further fuelled the grudge being nurtured by the syndicate for six years, investigators said. The gang finding shooters apparently with motives transcending monetary benefits seems to be the final nail in the coffin. In any case, the developments seem to be dismissive of theories attributing a caste angle to the killing, according to officials.
The plot seems to have been in the making for some time as Godara, who is hiding in a foreign country, allegedly tasked his close henchman Virendra Charan, who is currently absconding, around September to execute the task just after the state elections. The go-ahead allegedly came from Bishnoi and Goldy Brar.
Charan, in turn, started looking for hired killers who would be ready to do a high-risk job like this.
Apparently, Charan found a perfect candidate in Rohit Rathod who was once lodged with him in Ajmer jail in a rape case. Rathod was a third-year student of LLB at JNU, Jaipur.
“In 2017, Rathod was arrested in a case lodged under sections of Pocso and rape at Vaishali Nagar, Jaipur. Around two months ago, Charan contacted him and directed him to create a profile on the chat application Signal,” a senior police officer said.
