Gandhinagar: Leader of the Congress legislature party in the assembly, Amit Chavda said on Sunday that cattle impounded by the Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation (AMC) have been kept at the Danilimda cattle pound in pitiable conditions.
After visiting the pound along with a delegation, Chavda said, “The pound is stuffed with 5,000 cattle while it has a capacity to hold just 500.The fodder is inadequate, there is no cleanliness and no proper treatment facilities.”
Chavda added, “The BJP came to power by seeking votes in the name of the cow and has displayed criminal negligence towards the welfare of cows. Between 20 and 25 cattle have been dying daily.” Chavda said that locals and leaders of the maldhari community have alleged that dead or sick cattle are being sold off illegally from AMC’s pounds.
He demanded that AMC arrange to keep impounded cattle in proper pounds that have adequate space, fodder and medical services. tnn
