Central Para-Military Personnel: 46,960 Central para-military personnel took voluntary retirement since 2019, highest from BSF

NEW DELHI: A total 46,960 Central para-military personnel have taken voluntary retirement since 2019, of which the highest are from the Border Security Force (21,860) followed by 12,893 from the Central Reserve Police Forces (CRPF), the home ministry informed the Rajya Sabha on Wednesday.
Junior home minister Nityanand Rai, in reply to a question, said as many as 9,170 Central Armed Police Forces (CAPF) personnel have taken voluntary retirement so far this year, as compared to 11,169 in 2022, 10.812 in 2021, 6,882 in 2022 and 8,927 in 2019.
The force-wise breakup shows that while 21,860 BSF personnel opted to voluntarily leave service in the past five years, the number was 12,893 for CRPF, 5,176 for Assam Rifles, 3,012 for the Central Industrial Security Force (CISF), 2,281 for Indo-Tibetan Border Police (ITBP) and 1,738 for Sashastra Seema Bal (SSB).
“Reasons for voluntary retirement as indicated by forces are personal and domestic, including children/family issues, health issues of self or family members, social/family obligations and commitments, better career opportunities,” said Rai. He said the steps taken to reduce the attrition in Central para-military forces included timely conduct of cadre review, grant of modified assured career benefit, rotation of units deployed in extreme hard and hard areas to normal areas, counselling, a better grievance redressal system and offering facilities like canteen and financial aid to the personnel for needs like education of children and purchase of plot or flat.
