NEW DELHI: Lashing out at the opposition over the north-south divide remarks, Union minister Anurag Thakur on Wednesday said Congressinstead of analysing the reasons for its defeat in state elections, was hatching a conspiracy to insult Indian culture.
Rajeev Chandrasekhar, minister of state for skill development and entrepreneurship, too attacked Rahul Gandhi and Priyanka Gandhi Vadra for their silence on DMK’s Udhayanidhi Stalin and A Raja’s remark on Sanatan Dharma.
During a media briefing, Thakur questioned the silence of senior Congress leaders Sonia Gandhi and Rahul on the issue and wondered whether the remarks on the north-south divide and criticism of Sanatan Dharma had their sanction.
“Prime Minister Narendra Modi is spreading the message of ‘Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam’ but the opposition has started using foul language and is blaming EVMs and regionalism for their loss in the assembly elections,” Thakur said.
The BJP leader said, “Congress didn’t have any faith in constitutional institutions and kept blaming EVMs and insulted Sanatan Dharma, Hindus and Hindu culture whenever it lost any election.”
Accusing the Congress of resorting to divisive politics, he said during the election campaign, Congress raised the issues of casteism and religion, and when it did not work, the party was now resorting to a north-south divide.
“Congress-led ‘ghamandia’ (arrogant) alliance is leaving no stone unturned to insult Hindu, Hindi and Sanatan Dharma,” he added.
Chandrasekhar hit out at Rahul and Priyanka’s silence on “INDI Alliance’s partner” Udhayanidhi’s comment that “Sanatan Dharma is like dengue, malaria”, and A Raja’s comment that “Sanatan Dharma is equivalent to leprosy and HIV.” He also slammed “INDI Alliance partner” CPM who allows head of terrorist organisation Hamas for video conference and provides opportunity to radicalise youths of Kerala and the name of the programme is ‘uproot Hindutva’.
Thakur targeted Telangana chief minister-designate A Revanth Reddy and recalled his comment that his “Telangana DNA was better than the Bihar DNA” of his rivals.
He said fuelling a north-south divide had resulted in the Gandhi scion’s defeat in the Lok Sabha election. He added that Rahul had made demeaning statements on north Indians in his Lok Sabha seat of Wayanad after his defeat in Amethi in 2019, adding the Congress leader had made common cause with people who were keen to see India divided into pieces.
