Mumbai: A personal assistant of a former home minister was booked for cheating after he allegedly took Rs 5 lakh from a youth for availing a post of Talathi and did not avail the job nor did he return the money. The Matunga police have booked Manoj Radhakrushna Kokate for allegedly cheating Sumit Dabe, a resident of King’s Circle.
Dabe in his complaint alleged that while he went to play basketball in Pune in 2016 he came across former home minister Ram Shinde’s PAKokate.“In 2018 Kokate called him and said that he will talk to the minister and see that Dabe gets a Talathi’s post in Nashik or Pune or Raigad. He told Dabe that he will have to cough Rs 5 lakh to get this important posting after which he will earn enough money and lured Dabe.” said a police officer.
Dabe arranged the money and handed over a cheque of Rs 4 lakh to Kokate. Two months later Kokate asked Dabe to hand over his qualification as well remaining Rs 1 lakh. To which Dabe complied. Later Kokate informed Dabe that his appointment was cancelled and asked him to come and take back the money. Kokate kept giving excuses and delayed the repayment. In March 2023 Kokate handed over three cheques, two of Rs 2 lakh and one of Rs 1 lakh. However, the cheques were dishonoured due to insufficient funds. After which Dabe lodged a complaint with the Matunga police.
