Gandhinagar: A recent job opening by the Gujarat Subordinate Service Selection Board (GSSSB) has invited an overwhelming response, with over one lakh applicants competing for nearly 2,500 technical posts across various state government departments.
The open positions are spread across revenue, planning, industries and mines, and the government press.The notified posts include diverse technical roles like sterilizer technician, graphic designer, machine overseer, surveyor, junior process assistant, and many more.
The application process, conducted online through the OJAS website, witnessed a surge in registrations during the stipulated period of November 17 to December 2 . “The high number of applications reflects the growing demand for government jobs and the significant talent pool seeking opportunities within the state administration,” remarked a senior official at the GSSSB.
As per the GSSSB advertisement, the selection process will involve an objective-type examination, followed by further rounds as required followed by an interview. The large number of applicants for these Class 3 technical posts highlights the increasing demand for skilled professionals seeking positions within the government sector.
For instance for the positions of surveyor and senior surveyor there were close to 50,000 applicants. “The GSSSB will be advertising more technical positions in the coming months until the forthcoming budget for 2024-25. There were several pending proposals for job openings with the state government, that were cleared recently,” adds the senior GSSSB official.

Uttarakhand Technical University VC ordered to conduct RDC meet within 2 months
The high court directed the vice-chancellor of Uttarakhand Technical University (UTU) to hold a Research Degree Committee (RDC) meeting within two months. The VC’s special application challenging the October 2021 single bench order was dismissed. The ongoing vigilance investigation was cited as the reason for the VC’s inability to hold the RDC meeting. A research scholar approached the court due to the non-conduct of RDC meetings, affecting the completion of their PhD. The court found no legal obstacle for the VC to hold the RDC meeting, and the single bench’s order was upheld by the division bench.
