NEW DELHI: The health ministry has decided to organise a nationwide large-scale event on Wednesday to impart training to common man to perform Cardio-Pulmonary Resuscitation (CPR).
The initiative, to be led by the National Board of Examination in Medical Sciences, comes amid a sharp rise in heart attack cases and concerns being raised about people falling ill and dying due to sudden heart attack.
CPR is an emergency lifesaving procedure performed when the heart stops beating. Immediate CPR can double or triple chances of survival, according to the American Heart Association. It is recommended for use by people who see a teen or adult collapse in an out-of-hospital setting. “Timely Cardio-Pulmonary Resuscitation can help in such circumstances,” Abhijat Sethpresident of NBEMSsaid.
