Latest California rain, snow timing and totals forecast

Dry skies are expected through the weekend in Northern California but we can look forward to rounds of beneficial rain next week, according to our weather team. There will be mostly sunny skies on Saturday with daytime highs in the mid-60s in the Valley with light winds. Highs in the Foothills could reach the mid to upper-60s. A weather system will bring cloud cover to the region on Sunday but it will be a dry day, Chief Meteorologist Mark Finan said. There could be a shower before midnight. There will also be dry times on those days.In all, the region could expect to see 1.5 inches or more in Valley spots and 2-3 inches possible at places in the West Slope of the Sierra. Tuesday will likely be a rain and snow mix on the summit. It’s not until Wednesday that cooler air may help snow levels drop below 7,000 feet. It looks like it will be inches of snow instead of feet that impact travel on Interstate 80 and Highway 50 at elevations near 7,000 feet. Ski resorts will see some heavy, wet snow above 8,000 feet during this event.
