Medanta parent's scrip soars, makes Trehan a billionaire | India News


Delhi/ Mumbai: Naresh Trehanthe renowned cardiovascular surgeon who earlier founded Delhi-based Escorts Heart Institute, is the latest to join the list of Indian billionaires after the share price of his company, Global Healththe operator of Medanta hospital chainmore than doubled in the last one year.
On Thursday, Global Health closed 4.3% higher on BSE at Rs 960.From its IPO price of Rs 336 a little over a year ago, the stock is now up an impressive 182%. In comparison, BSE’s healthcare index is up 30%.
At Thursday’s close, the company had a market capitalisation of Rs 25,764 crore. Trehan, who holds nearly 33.1% in the company, is worth about Rs 8,517 crore, translating to over $1 billion. Global Health scrip touched 52-week high of Rs 976.55 on Thursday.
Global Health, with revenue of over Rs 1,960 crore, is one of the largest private multi-specialty tertiary care providers operating in the north and east regions, running a network of five hospitals under the Medanta brand currently (Gurgaon, Indore, Ranchi, Lucknow, and Patna). The operational hospitals have 2,725 installed beds as on September 30, 2023, with one hospital under-construction in Noida.
Analysts say Medanta has exhibited healthy growth in international patient revenue, implying enhanced acceptability outside India as well. Interestingly, Medanta is on path to achieve the expected FY25 financial performance in FY24 itself. Further, the entity is actively expanding its capacity, having not only increased the bed numbers, but also adding clinical resources.
