With the wedding season at its peak, Delhi government’s excise department has urged people hosting functions to take temporary permits to serve liquor at parties and avoid drinking in the open and at public places.
A Delhi government official said as per industry estimates, more than 3.5 lakh weddings were to be solemnised between November 23 and December 15, but the number of licences issued by the excise department stood at just 912.
The excise department issues the P10 licence for serving liquor in parties and functions at farmhouses, banquet halls and other premises. It can be applied for seven days before the event and the applicant can purchase liquor from six stores. However, an individual who wants to serve liquor at his or her residence does not need a licence, provided it is within the permissible possession limit of nine litres.
