NEW DELHI: Lok Sabha was adjourned on Monday withing nine minutes of opening as Speaker Om Birla objected to BSP member Danish Ali wearing placards on his chest in protest against BJP MP Ramesh Bidhuri‘s “derogatory” remarks. As the House met, Birla first read out the obituary references to members who had passed away. When Question Hour started, Ali raised the issue of his complaint against Bidhuri for allegedly making derogatory remarks against him in the last session.Ali had two placards hanging around his neck. One read, “Saansad ka apmaan, Sansad ka apmaan hai” (insult to an MP is an insult to Parliament) while the other said, “Punish Bidhuri, Save democracy”.
Parliamentary affairs minister Pralhad Joshi immediately brought it to the notice of the Speaker and requested him to ask Ali to remove them.
The Speaker told Ali that it was against Parliamentary rules to come to the House with placards and asked the BSP MP to immediately go out of the House.”I appeal to every member not to break the rules of the House. I expect every one of you to maintain decorum and come with a positive mind,” he said. However, Ali continued with his protest demanding action against Bidhuri.
“I will not allow anyone to come to the House with placards,” Birla said and adjourned the House till 12 noon, at 11.09 am.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Union ministers Rajnath Singh, Amit Shah and Congress leader Sonia Gandhi were among those present in the House.
