Ahmedabad: Dr Y S Rawatformer director of the directorate of archaeology and museums of the government of Gujarat, has been appointed director general (DG) of the Archaeological Survey of India (BUT).
The order dated December 7 says the appointment is for a period of three years. Rawat is known for his work on a number of important excavations ranging from Dholavira to Vadnagar.
He had excavated the famed Buddhist monastery in Vadnagar and over the decades has worked on several important Harappan sites in and outside Gujarat. tnn
