Mumbai: A special Pocso court on Friday convicted a man to 20 years of rigorous imprisonment for raping a seven-year-old girl in his neighbourhood in 2020.
The accused (23) took the girl home on pretext of playing ludo. Among the witnesses cited by special public prosecutor Vinod D More were the girl, her father and the neighbours.
The incident took place on June 10, 2020.The child told the court that on the day of the incident she was present in the house with her mother, father and sisters. She said the accused came to her house at 5.30pm and took her to his house to play ‘ludo’. The child said her parents were sleeping. “He took me inside and bolted the door,” she said, adding that he sexually assaulted her and when she screamed the neighbours gathered at the spot. TNN

The accused, who was the mother’s live-in partner, committed suicide. The children are now under the protection of a children’s home. The case was prosecuted by a special public prosecutor and investigated by Pallickal police sub-inspectors. 22 witnesses testified and 33 documents were presented during the trial.
