Singer Simba Singh’s new song ‘Lear’ has been released recently. This song is from his album ‘East West Boy’. The lyrics of this song are written by Simba himself. The song is composed by his brother Jerry Singh (Jasraj Singh). Simba had a special conversation with Divya Bhaskar.
‘liar’ Say something about?
Liar is the third song from my album East West Boy. This song is written by me. My brother Jerry composed this song. This comes from my experience. Actually I sing in English, but I started singing in Punjabi 3 months ago. I am looking for the songs of this album. The album is a mix of sad, romantic and pop.
How long did it take to write the song?
It took about 20 to 25 minutes to write this song. My style is that when I sit down to write a song, I get up after finishing it. In fact, I think I should use all my motivation at once. On the other hand, I also work on music with my brother Jerry, so that also takes up our time. It may take a week, it may take four weeks.
What is special about song music?
I worked in Los Angeles during my college days. I have always been influenced. You must have heard that Harry is a stylish singer, I used to watch his songs being made, then did an internship at the studio. So I know the style of working there, so you can say that the sound of ‘Lair’ is soulful and overall it’s a pop song. I think Jerry and I’ve always had the idea to design the sound along with the lyrics so that it doesn’t sound separate.
You come from a music family background, so do you feel pressured with your work?
I didn’t feel like that from the beginning, because me and my brother Jerry are influenced by US songs, we don’t have to compete with them but we have to work like that. The pressure is that we have to work hard. This works for us. We spend all our time on how to make music great. We also listen to as many people’s songs as possible so that we can learn something from them as well.
In your opinion, what kind of changes have taken place in the music industry?
There are many artists emerging in the Hindi music industry right now, who are lending their voice without any fear. Trying to give my best. This is what is happening in the American industry, I am so glad that people are not afraid. I think the music industry is changing and I hope more changes come and real artists come forward.
Why was it titled ‘Liar’?
I too am a part of this youth and in today’s age everyone has more relationship problems than the previous generation. Meaning, relationship problems are not only between a boy and a girl, but can also occur between two friends. I think a lot of people are going through toxic relationships in this day and age. As you know, someone is cheating, someone is lying, someone is hurting someone, so I think this song will connect with people who have been through this experience.
