What is MCOCA?
Maharashtra government enacted MCOCA (Maharashtra Control of Organized Crime Act) in 1999. Its aim was to eradicate organized and underworld crime. This law is applicable in Maharashtra and Delhi.

Accused do not get bail easily after the implementation of MACOCA. Under MCOCA the police get 180 days to file a charge sheet, while under the provisions of IPC this time limit is only 60 to 90 days. Under MCOCA the police remand of an accused can be up to 30 days, while under IPC it is a maximum of 15 days.

This is how MCOCA sees one
The police have to take the permission of the Additional Commissioner of Police before imposing macoka on anyone. In which a case will be registered against an accused only if he has been involved in at least two organized crimes in the last 10 years.

Organized crime must involve at least two people. Apart from this, the charge sheet should have been filed against the accused after the FIR. If the police do not file a charge sheet within 180 days, the accused can get bail. The maximum punishment under the MCOCA Act is death. In which there is a provision of imprisonment for a minimum of five years.

Lawrence threatened Salman in March 2023
Salman Khan has always been a target of the Lawrence Bishwoi gang. In March 2023, after receiving a threat from Lawrence, Salman’s security was increased. Since then he was granted Y+ category security by Maharashtra government.

The NIA said Khan topped the list of 10 people whom jailed gangster Lawrence had threatened to kill. Lawrence said in a TV interview that when he was four or five years old, Salman Khan killed a black buck, revered by the Bishnoi community, while hunting, and that he has been angry with Salman ever since.

11 soldiers, including one or two commandos and 2 PSOs, are constantly accompanying Salman for his security. There are always two vehicles to keep Salman’s vehicle in front and behind. Along with this, Salman’s car is also completely bullet proof.
