Famous Bollywood casting director Mukesh Chhabra has casted the recently released film ‘Amar Singh Chamkila’. During an interview said that casting in this film was a big challenge. Mukesh Chhabra also praised Diljit Dosanjh. He says that Diljit Dosanjh never thought becoming a star was possible before. But today there is a Punjabi in Bollywood, who is a star.

Diljit has proved that even a turban wearer can become a star in Bollywood. This has never happened before. He has earned a lot of respect for Punjabis. We are all proud of how well he is handling his career. His belief in himself is reflected in his work. Today he is considered one of the biggest stars in India. This is a big success.

When asked if Imtiaz Ali had already considered Diljit Dosanjh and Parineeti Chopra to play the roles of Amar Singh Chamkila and Amarjot Kaur, Mukesh Chhabra said – We had already thought about it. Because to play Amarjot we needed someone who could sing and was from Punjab. Diljit was the first choice for this from the beginning, as it is the story of a Punjabi singer. Who better to apologize for this?

Talking about the casting of the film, Mukesh said, All the actors working in this film are amazing actors. This was the first time after Gangs of Wasseypur that I needed 6 to 7 assistants. Because we were casting from everywhere in the Punjab belt. I didn’t want to leave any stone unturned for this film.

I had initially discussed with Imtiaz Ali that we would be casting for a small part as well. We often cast for primary roles and then leave them, but in ‘Chamkila’ we wanted to cast every character. So we held a huge audition to find the right actors.

He said – So far in all the films we have done in Punjab, be it ‘Manmarziyaan’ or ‘Lal Singh Chadha’, we have made many fictional stories. But Chamkila was different from all the films. It was challenging for us because it was a biopic and we had to be completely honest with the story and the people.

We had to cast in such a way that the people felt like they belonged to the era we were trying to portray. It should not look like they are acting. So the casting we did for the film was authentically Punjabi. The biggest thing to keep in mind while casting was that the body and speech of the actor should be Punjabi.
