BJP in SC against HC order barring anti-TMC adverts | India News

NEW DELHI: BJP has approached Supreme Court against Calcutta high court’s order directing it not to issue certain derogatory advertisements against Trinamool Congress (in violation of the Model Code of Conduct (MCC) during Lok Sabha Elections, 2024.
The party mentioned the case before a vacation bench of Justices Bela Trivedi and Pankaj Mithal for an urgent hearing. The court assured that it would examine.
A single bench of HC had held that advertisements were violative of the MCC and had restrained BJP from publishing such ads till further orders.
“A perusal of the impugned ads published on various dates in this month, clearly evince that those are in violation of the letter and spirit of the MCC, which clearly prohibits all participants in the election process from criticism of other parties or their workers based on unverified allegations or distortion,” the bench had observed.
The party thereafter challenged the order before a division bench but the bench refused to interfere and BJP thereafter moved the top court.
