One person has died after they fell onto the MBTA Orange Line tracks and became trapped under a train in Boston Friday afternoon, police confirmed.

Officers responded to the Jackson Square station around 12:30 p.m. for a report of a person trapped underneath a train, a spokesperson for the Boston Police Department said. Firefighters and Boston EMS also responded, and the person was pronounced dead at the scene.

Detectives from the Transit Police and the Boston Police Department’s Homicide Unit are investigating the incident.

“On behalf of the TPD and the entire MBTA organization we offer our most sincere condolences to the decedent’s family and loved ones,” Sullivan said.

The MBTA is running shuttle buses between Ruggles and Forest Hills while investigators continue to process the scene at Jackson Square. In the meantime, the commuter rail is free to ride between South Station, Back Bay, Ruggles, and Forest Hills. The Green Line is also available for alternate service downtown.
