You must have heard and seen the names of all these medicinal plants, but Nirgundi is such a medicinal plant, which grows on the banks of rivers and streams and is helpful in reducing wounds and swelling in the body.
According to Ayurveda, ‘Nirgundi shariram rakshati rogebhya tasmad nirgundi’ means, what protects the body from diseases is called Nirgundi (Nirgundi/ Vitex/Chaste Plant). A tree (Nirgundi Plant) grows by itself. These shrubs are found in places like rivers, ponds, fields, ie where there is water accumulation.

When its leaves are crushed, a specific type of foul smell comes out of them. This herb is a famous medicine for arthritis. It is found all over India at an altitude of 1500 m and in the outskirts of the Himalayas. It has many species with different colors of white, blue and black flowers. But, blue and white are its two main varieties.
Beneficial in these diseases
There are two species of Nirgundi based on the leaves. Vitex negundo Linn. has five or three leaves. But only three leaves are found in the species of Nirgundi called Vitex trifolia Linn. Nirgundi is a very effective medicine, which destroys phlegm, wind and reduces pain. Applying it as a paste on the skin reduces swelling. Nirgundi is very beneficial in healing wounds and curing them in less time. It destroys bacteria and insects.

Dr. Brajesh Kuparia of the AYUSH department said that this is a very important medicinal plant which is found on the banks of rivers, streams, farms and ponds, where there is abundance of water. This plant is 4 to 5 feet tall. Apart from providing oxygen, this medicinal plant is very effective in reducing the pain of arthritis.
