After Canada, Germany, now this country has made smoking marijuana legal, it is still banned in India

Marijuana news in Hindi: Brazil has long been a supporter of strict laws regarding drugs. But now it has relaxed its stance. Brazil has declared marijuana ‘decriminalised’ for keeping it at home up to a certain limit and for personal use. By doing so, it has become the largest country to do so.

The decision to allow marijuana smoking was taken after a long period of deliberation. Brazil on Wednesday decriminalized marijuana for personal use. Brazil’s Supreme Court ruled that Brazilians can possess up to 40 grams of marijuana, which is enough for about 80 joints. There will be no penalty or punishment for possessing this much. This decision will take effect in a few days and will remain in force for the next 18 months.

It is worth noting that police can still seize it and make arrests. It is still illegal and its use in public places will still be banned but a person caught using marijuana and possessing up to 40 grams will not have a criminal record, although will have to appear before a judge to hear a warning on the dangers of the drug.

Police can still arrest someone selling marijuana, even if the person possesses less than 40 grams. More than 20 countries have now legalized the use of marijuana. Most of these areas/countries are in Europe and America. In countries like Canada, Spain, Germany, its use is said to be legal with conditions. In India, it is still a banned drug for the common people. (Inputs from agencies)
