A New Mexico judge has dismissed the involuntary manslaughter case against Hollywood actor Alec Baldwin in the fatal shooting of cinematographer Halyna Hutchins on the set of the film “Rust”.
The case was dismissed with prejudice, meaning the charges cannot be refiled. Baldwin’s lawyers alleged that the police and prosecutors suppressed evidence that could have been linked to the shooting. The prosecution argued that the ammunition in question was not connected to the case and did not match the bullets found on the Rust set.
The judge reprimanded the prosecution team for failing to disclose critical evidence, stating that the state’s withholding of information was intentional and deliberate. The judge concluded that dismissal with prejudice was warranted to ensure the integrity of the judicial system.
Although the criminal case has been dismissed, Baldwin and the other producers of the film still face civil lawsuits from Hutchins’ family. The fate of the film’s release remains uncertain.
Baldwin’s career had been put in jeopardy, but the dismissal of the case allows him to move forward. He and his wife, Hilaria, have announced a new reality series about their family, “The Baldwins”, set to release soon.
