New Delhi. On Tuesday morning, some people from the neighbouring country started gathering on the Bangladesh border. These people wanted to try to enter the Indian border near the Madhubana border post in Murshidabad district. The patrol team of Border Security Force (BSF) jawans noticed them. Before the jawans could order them to stop, these Bangladeshis attacked the BSF jawans. The Indian security forces immediately responded to this. Bullets were fired at these youths. Amidst the retaliatory action, all these Bangladeshis fled into the forests.
An official statement issued by the BSF said that all of them were Bangladeshi smugglers. The soldiers patrolling the outpost area saw eight to ten smugglers coming towards the border and warned them. The BSF said, “Instead of stopping, the smugglers proceeded to attack the soldiers with sharp weapons. A soldier fired a shot in the air in self-defense but the situation worsened due to the aggressive stance of the smugglers and they attacked the soldiers. The soldier fired at the smugglers with his INSAS rifle while defending himself.”
According to the statement, “On hearing the firing, the smugglers took advantage of the darkness, dense bushes and jute fields and fled towards the Indian border. The possibility of any smuggler getting injured in this firing in self-defense cannot be ruled out.”
