London. Dynamo Kyiv’s dream of reaching the group stage of Champions League football has been shattered by Benfica, who defeated them 3-0 in the qualifying playoff. Nicolas Otamendi, Rafa Silva and David Neres scored goals for Benfica.
Due to Russia’s attack on Ukraine, Dynamo could not play domestic football for a whole year. Entering the Champions League without any preparation, it could not perform as expected.
Meanwhile, the new season of the Ukrainian Football League started on Tuesday and the match between Shakhtar Donetsk and Metalist 1925 ended in a goalless draw. This match was played without spectators due to the war.
