Bombay High Court reduced Maratha reservation from 16 to 12%, said- more quota is not good

The Bombay High Court has rejected the petition filed against Maratha reservation. But the High Court has also said that 16 percent reservation is unfair. With this, the High Court has put its seal on the decision of the Maharashtra government. In this petition, the constitutionality of the provision of 16 percent reservation for Marathas in the state was challenged. The High Court has also talked about bringing the 16 percent reservation to 12 to 13 percent. According to the court, work should be done only on the basis of the recommendations of the Stated Backward Classes Commission (SEBC).

The agitation for reservation lasted for a long time

The bill was passed in November 2018
The bill to provide 16 percent reservation to the Maratha community in Maharashtra was passed in November last year. The Maratha reservation bill was passed unanimously by both the houses of the state. There is a provision to provide this reservation to the Maratha community under SEBC.
