New Delhi. On 21 December, the result of the election of the new president of the Wrestling Federation of India was declared. The result was seen in the protest of the wrestlers who came out on the streets to fight. Sanjay Singh won the election by a huge margin and was elected as the new president of WFI. Sanjay Singh was said to be close to Brij Bhushan Singh, due to which the wrestlers looked unhappy. Sakshi Malik, who had won an Olympic medal for India, had decided to quit wrestling with tears during the press conference. But even after this, she is unable to sleep.
Sakshi Malik has posted on social media against the first decision of WFI. She wrote on Instagram, ‘I have left wrestling but I am worried since last night. What should those junior women wrestlers do who are calling me and telling me that Didi Junior Nationals are going to be held from this 28th and the new wrestling federation has decided to hold it in Nandani Nagar Gonda. Gonda is Brijbhushan’s area, now you think in what kind of environment the junior women wrestlers will go there to wrestle. Is there no place to hold nationals anywhere in this country other than Nandani Nagar? I am not able to understand what to do.’
Wrestlers fought for 40 days
Indian wrestlers fought a long battle against Brijbhushan Singh. Many wrestlers including Bajrang Punia, Sakshi Malik and Vinesh Phogat also protested at Jantar Mantar for about one and a half months. Brijbhushan Singh was accused of sexual harassment of female wrestlers. After this, Brijbhushan Sharan Singh decided to dissolve the committee of Wrestling Federation of India.
Anita Sheoran fought the election against Sanjay Singh. But she could not win. Sanjay Singh has registered a big victory in this election by 40 votes out of 47. When Brij Bhushan Singh took over the presidency of UP Wrestling Association in the year 2009, Sanjay Singh was holding the post of vice president.
