Washington. In a surprising shift in his tough stance on immigration, former President Donald Trump has expressed his desire to directly grant green cards to foreign students graduating from American colleges. During an interview on the ‘All-In’ podcast, Trump said, “What I want to do and what I will do is that when you graduate from a college, I think you should automatically get a green card as part of your diploma, a green card to be able to stay in this country.” He also asked to include graduates of two-year junior colleges and doctoral programs in this proposal.

Trump’s stance changed
This changed attitude of Donald Trump is going to increase the enthusiasm of Indian students studying in American colleges. According to a report, the number of Indian students opting for higher education in the US reached an unprecedented level during the 2022-23 academic year. This jump shows a 35 percent increase compared to last year. Data from the Institute of International Education (IIE) showed that more than 200,000 Indian students enrolled in various US institutions, setting a new record. This remarkable increase shows the growing trend of Indian students seeking educational opportunities abroad, especially in the US.

America is the favorite destination for Indian students
The opportunity to enhance career prospects has made the US a preferred destination for Indian students. Trump’s latest remarks mark a departure from his typical anti-immigrant rhetoric, which has often described immigrants as a threat to public safety, job security and government resources. When asked about his plan to bring the best and brightest from around the world to the US, Trump replied, “I promise that.”

China was groaning from America’s wounds on Tibet, then Modi sprinkled salt on it, now the dragon will surely get irritated

Many graduates returned to their home countries
He cited stories of highly skilled graduates from top colleges who were forced to return to their home countries like India and China due to visa restrictions, where they became successful entrepreneurs employing thousands of people. The Green Card, or Permanent Resident Card, is a crucial step towards US citizenship. Trump’s plan aims to retain talented individuals who have received their education in the US, which often sees these students returning to their home countries.
