Farmers' protest: Blocking roads has caused huge losses, now traders are demanding from the government

New Delhi. Today marks 24 days since the farmers sitting on the borders of Delhi have been protesting against the agricultural laws. While on one hand the farmers sitting on the roads is causing problems in traffic, on the other hand the business across the country is also suffering a lot. After the shock of the Corona epidemic and the situation arising out of the farmers’ movement, now the traders are appealing to the central government to listen to the demands of the farmers.

Suresh Bindal, former head of Delhi Hindustani Mercantile Association, says that the farmers’ agitation has caused a lot of loss to the trade. So much so that the buying and selling has stopped in all the wholesale markets of Delhi, Chandni Chowk, Sadar Bazar, Khari Baoli, Naya Bazar, Bhagirath Palace, Daryaganj, Tank Road, Sarojini Nagar, Gandhinagar, as well as in the markets spread over 600 kilometers from Delhi. The farmers’ agitation that has been going on for a fortnight has had a major impact on the market turnover. In these days, buying and selling worth about 30 thousand crores rupees has stopped.

Bindal says that the market has already faced a lot of problems due to Corona. Now when the situation was getting better somehow, the farmers’ movement has broken the back of the traders. Transporters have a different kind of fear due to this movement. Trade has been most affected due to the movement which intensified from 12 December to 14 December.

The farmers’ movement is not only causing trouble to the traders of Delhi NCR but also to the traders across the country. This is causing problems to Punjab, The economies of states like Haryana and Himachal Pradesh have been affected.

On the other hand, CAT’s national general secretary Praveen Khandelwal says that due to the ongoing farmer agitation in and around Delhi, trade worth about Rs 5000 crore has been affected. Khandelwal says that the demands of the farmers should be heard and this problem should be resolved immediately. If this is not done soon, the condition of traders and transporters can become very bad. The loss-making farming of farmers should be converted into profitable farming. After Diwali, things had started coming back on track but now big troubles have come due to the farmer agitation.
