Ghoomer Movie Review: Cricket and cinema have always been a draw for the audience. But whenever cricket stories are shown in cinema, it is not necessary that they always garner praise from the audience by hitting a tremendous sixer. Director R. Balki has made such a film ‘Ghoomar’ with the combination of Abhishek Bachchan and Sayami Kher, which is the story of a female creator. ‘Ghoomar’ is a beautiful story adorned with the flavor of faith, trust and cricket, which brings a dose of entertainment. Let us tell you what is special for you in this film.
What the story says: This is the story of Anina Dixit (Sayami Kher), who is a great batsman and is all set to play international cricket. Anina was about to start this journey when her life changes completely due to an accident. Anina, who has lost all her hopes, enters the life of Padma Singh Sodhi i.e. Paddy Sir (Abhishek Bachchan), who not only brings back her lost confidence but also helps her in fulfilling her dream of playing for the country. But how, you will get to see this in the story.
Ghoomar is different from the film stories of cricket
First of all, talking about the story, we have seen ‘Iqbal’ before, in which a mute boy wins the blue jersey through bowling and plays for the country. We have seen extraordinary stories of cricket before this too. But this story of director R. Balki brings to the screen the story of a girl making her place in the gentleman’s game and winning. But ‘Ghoomar’ is different and talks ahead of any women’s sports film till date. The girl is playing cricket, her family members are not agreeing or she is getting taunts everywhere, she has to become a victim of politics after selection… ‘Ghoomar’ does not even touch any of these things.
Shabana Azmi will also be seen in ‘Ghoomar’ along with Abhishek and Sayami.
At the beginning of the story, Anina’s grandmother i.e. Shabana Azmi is covering the score of every match with her and on the other hand, Anina’s father is cooking food for his 2 sons and a daughter at home. These are the things that make this film ‘Ghoomar’ special and different. Often sports based films become completely similar after a point, but ‘Ghoomar’ has the ability to keep you hooked from beginning to end.
Background music doesn’t break your ears
While the first half of the film serves to drag the story along, the second half has a lot of high points. The second half is quite entertaining. The best thing about the film is that you will not find ear-splitting background music anywhere in the film. Neither is helplessness forcibly shown in any part of the story, nor is there any attempt to force it into the ears through BGM.
Abhishek will win your heart, it is guaranteed
Talking about acting, Sayami Khair has been excellent in the role of Anina. She herself is a cricketer and hence she has captured the body language of a cricketer very well. Abhishek Bachchan who plays Paddy Sir has done a great job of winning hearts in the film, whenever he appears on screen, you listen carefully to everything he says. In the film, Abhishek has given a tremendous monologue on the logic and magic of life. After listening to it, only one voice comes from the heart again and again, Abhishek, you should do more films… A torturing coach and a player who tolerates it is a very favorite combination in films, but Abhishek has played this style very well. Abhishek has brought life to this film with his acting. Shabana Azmi, unlike ‘Rocky Aur Rani Ki Prem Kahani’, has played the role of a strong woman in this film, whose knowledge of cricket is much more than any man in her house.
Another great feature of ‘Ghoomar’ is the dialogues of the film, which add life to the story. The one-liners of the film are very funny. As much as the performances have done a great job of taking the story forward and making it interesting, the writing of the film is also equally amazing, which gives you a full opportunity to laugh and get emotional in every part of the story. However, the match shown in the second half of the story has been shown completely filmy. 4 stars for this film from me.
