Yakutia- World’s coldest village: While the whole of India, especially the northern region, is burning in the scorching heat, there are some parts of the world which are always cold. It is not that there are no cold areas in India, but our scale of extreme cold is much milder than those parts of the world where the actual cold is bone-chilling. A village named Yakutsk in Russia is considered to be the coldest place in the world where human population lives. The minimum temperature here has been recorded as minus 83 degrees Celsius.
Yakutsk village lies in the Siberian desert. At this place, a temperature of minus 40C° is considered a ‘hot’ afternoon, and a temperature of minus 68C° is considered tolerable. The life of people here is like living in a deep freezer. Everything here is covered with snow and smoke. The lifestyle of the people living here is quite challenging, knowing which you will be surprised. Yakutsk is located 5000 kilometers east of Moscow, the capital of Russia.
The vehicles are on for 24 hours
It is said that this place is so cold that the vehicles are kept on 24 hours a day. The town under Yakutsk is named Oymyakon. During winter, the average temperature here is minus 50 degrees Celsius. During this temperature, the vehicles are never switched off here. The reason for this is also very interesting. If they switch off their vehicles, they will have to wait for the summer to start them again. Obviously no one wants to take this risk.

The roads here remain covered with snow most of the year. Due to such weather, living in Yakutsk is not easy, rather it is a dangerous place.
The hardships of life in Yakutsk
It is almost impossible to live a normal life in Yakutsk. The biggest challenge for the people here is to get food. Now there has been some relief with time, but it is still a tough job. People here have now started getting packaged food, which helps them in their difficult times. When the cold subsides, fish are displayed outside the shops in this village located on the banks of the Lena River in Russia and they remain fresh for months because there is continuous snow here. Fish is the main food of the people here.
Heating the house is the main task
Even though it is very difficult for many of us to spend even a short time here, but according to The Sun’s report, Russia’s Yakutsk village is a beautiful place. The first thing people do here after waking up in the morning is to collect wood. Then burn those woods by making a bonfire and make the environment of the house livable. Here the houses are made of concrete, which can withstand extremely cold weather. The houses are kept warm by using huge amounts of wood during the nine snowy months.
Apart from heating the houses when the temperature drops well below zero, finding potable water is the second most difficult task here. To avoid the cold, people here wear more clothes, which are often hairy, made of warm fur. People have to wear thick shoes all the time, without which they cannot survive even for a moment.
