New Delhi. Sri Lanka has suffered a major setback within 24 hours of announcing the team. Dushmantha Chameera, considered to be Sri Lanka’s best fast bowler, has been dropped from the team. Sri Lanka’s chief selector Upul Tharanga gave this information on Wednesday. Host Sri Lanka had announced its team for the T20 series against India on Tuesday, 23 July, in which Dushmantha Chameera’s name was included.

The T20 series between India and Sri Lanka is starting from July 27. First a 3-match T20 series will be played between the two teams. After this, both the teams will face each other in the ODI series from August 2. Sri Lanka announced a 16-member team for the T20 series on Tuesday.

Sri Lanka team’s chief selector Upul Tharanga said that Dushmantha Chameera has been ruled out of the upcoming series due to injury. He said, ‘We came to know about his (Dushmantha) injury only yesterday. It is not yet decided whether he is out only from the T20 series or will not be able to play the ODI series as well.’ Sri Lanka has not yet announced Chameera’s replacement due to the uncertainty of his injury.
