New Delhi: It has been nearly two and a half years since the war between Russia and Ukraine. Even after thousands of deaths, the war between Ukraine and Russia is not coming to an end. This is the reason why the whole world is now engaged in the exercise to end the war and restore peace. Yes, more than 100 countries of the world have come together on one platform to end the Russia-Ukraine war. The Ukraine Peace Summit started in Switzerland from Saturday. The Ukraine war will be discussed in detail in this international summit. Prime Ministers and other high-level representatives of about 100 countries as well as international organizations are participating in this conference. India is also included in this summit.
The most important thing is that Russia and China are not participating in the Ukraine Peace Summit. But India has participated in it without worrying about anything. It is not worried about what Russia will think. This summit is being held at the Bergenstock Resort near Lucerne city of Switzerland. Secretary (West) Pawan Kapoor in the Ministry of External Affairs is representing India in this Ukraine Peace Summit. The interesting thing is that India is the only South Asian country that is participating in this Ukraine Peace Summit. China and Pakistan, who boast about everything, are not participating in this summit.
Pakistan and China raised their hands
The list of participating countries in this Ukraine Peace Summit has been revealed. According to this list, India is the only South Asian country which is participating in the summit. A total of more than 90 countries have confirmed their participation in the summit. Half of these are from Europe. Many organizations including the United Nations will also participate in the conference. Russia has not been invited to this summit. Whereas Switzerland had invited China and Pakistan. But both of them are not participating in this summit on their own will. Both of them are firing guns by keeping them on Russia’s shoulder.
Why is China not getting involved?
Rejecting the invitation to the Ukraine Peace Summit, China said that since Russia will not attend the meeting, Ukraine’s unilateral presence at the peace summit will be meaningless. Beijing has said that instead of a conference, it is a platform for Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky to promote his ‘peace formula’. Pakistan has also refused to attend this summit citing Russia. Experts believe that both Pakistan and China do not want to anger Russia. They both believe that if Russia is not attending this summit, then they do not want to take any risk by attending this summit.
India showed courage
However, India is not concerned about what opinion any country has about it. India has been advocating peace in the Russia-Ukraine war since the beginning. PM Modi has reiterated many times on different platforms that peace can be restored in the Russia-Ukraine war only through dialogue. Russia has been a very close and good friend of India. But when it comes to world peace and humanity, India has made its stand clear. India has not tried to remain neutral like China-Pakistan. When two countries are killing each other in the world, then there is no point in remaining neutral. This is the reason why India is participating in this summit.
Who all are involved, what is discussed?
Prime Ministers of more than 50 countries are participating in this summit. British Prime Minister Rishi Sunak, French President Emmanuel Macron, German Chancellor Olaf Scholz, US Vice President Kamala Harris, Japanese Prime Minister Fumio Kishida and Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau will be present at the conference. The aim of the summit is to pave the way for peace in Ukraine. All these countries will discuss many issues including grain export from Ukraine, security of the Russian-occupied Zaporizhzhya nuclear power plant and exchange of prisoners. This meeting is being held on the initiative of Ukraine and President Volodymyr Zelensky and many leaders are participating in it after reaching here directly after the G7 meeting in Italy.
Another summit is expected to take place
Switzerland hopes to hold another similar conference this year and Moscow will also participate in it. Russia started the war by invading Ukraine in February 2022. Hundreds of soldiers have been killed or injured in this war, as well as civilian casualties. Ukraine’s infrastructure has also been destroyed by Russian firing. Many cities of Ukraine have become completely ruined. Ukraine has so far stood firm in this war because it is getting support from NATO countries and the West.
