Begusarai: Begusarai, famous as the industrial city of Bihar, is now making its mark for the manufacture of machines that give music to the wind. As soon as you hear the name of the machine that gives music to the wind, many questions must be arising in your mind that what is this machine, through which the air that is circulated turns into music. Yes, we are talking about harmonium. The harmonium made in Begusarai has become the first choice of artists from UP and Bihar as well as the neighbouring country Nepal. Harmonium maker Sunil Kumar Sharma says that the entire structure in it is made of wood and there is nothing extra here. Earlier, my father used to work in a Delhi company manufacturing harmoniums. I set up a factory for this by following in my father’s footsteps.

Starting your own startup was better than working for someone else

Sunil Kumar Sharma, the creator of JMS Harmonium Company, told Local 18 that earlier he used to work with his father in a harmonium company in Delhi. He did not get leave even when needed. In such a situation, he thought that it is better to start a small startup of his own rather than working in a big company. After this, he returned to the village and opened his harmonium company named JMS in Bakhri. In the initial days, he applied to the Industry Department to start this business. From there, the loan was approved under the Udyam Yojana, but the bank did not give the loan. After this, he went to PNB Bank and met the loan assistant there and took a loan of 9.50 lakhs and started giving a new identity to this business. Gradually, the sale of harmoniums picked up pace and today he is manufacturing harmoniums worth around 10 lakhs every month.

The range starts from 5500

Sunil Kumar Sharma told that 25 workers work here daily. They are only engaged in the work of making harmonium. Artisan Ashok Kumar Sharma told that they work on size management here. The salary for this is 25 thousand rupees per month. Devanand Mahato told that he is a resident of Bengal and works here on painting harmoniums. He is getting a good salary for this work. Sunil told that the best wood for harmonium is ordered from Himachal Pradesh. Every month 200 pieces of harmonium are manufactured in this factory. If we talk about the price range, then harmoniums ranging from 5500 rupees to 30 thousand are made. During this, he told that people are not attracted only by making harmonium, but we also know how to play it properly. Therefore, when a customer comes, the harmonium has to be shown by playing it. After this the price is decided.
