Moscow. Prime Minister Narendra Modi told Russian President Vladimir Putin on Tuesday that peace talks cannot succeed amid bombs, guns and bullets and no solution to any conflict is possible on a battlefield. The two leaders held talks against the backdrop of the Ukraine conflict.
In his televised opening remarks, Modi assured Putin and the global community that India was in favour of peace and was ready to contribute to ending the conflict in Ukraine. “Peace is very important for a bright future for the new generation… Peace talks cannot succeed amidst bombs, guns and bullets,” he said.
The Prime Minister also mentioned his informal conversation with Putin on Monday and said that listening to the Russian President brought hope. PM Modi said, “If people lose their lives, then every person who believes in humanity is saddened. On top of that, if innocent children are killed, if innocent children die, then it is heart-breaking and very painful.”
He said, “In our meeting on 8 July, we listened to each other’s views on the issue of Ukraine and I also placed before you the aspirations of the ‘Global South’ on peace and stability.” The Prime Minister also mentioned Russia’s help to India in the energy sector.
He said that when the world was facing shortage of food, fuel and fertilizers, we did not let our farmers face any problem and our friendship with Russia played a role in this. PM Modi said, “We want our cooperation with Russia to increase further so that the welfare of our farmers is ensured.” He said that strong relations between the two countries will greatly benefit the people.
The Prime Minister also expressed concern about the challenges of terrorism. He said, “India has been facing the challenge of terrorism for nearly 40 years. I condemn all forms of terrorism.” PM Modi said that the world has faced many challenges in the last five years, the first of which was due to Covid-19 and then many conflicts emerged.
