Rocky Aur Rani Kii Prem Kahaani Review: Ranveer Singh, Alia's film is full of entertainment, but there are also many flaws - Rocky Aur Rani Kii Prem Kahaani Review Alia Bhatt Ranveer Singh Karan Johar film is full of entertainment with too many flaws

Rocky and Rani’s love story review: Karan Johar has once again come together with his favourite Alia Bhatt and Ranveer Singh for his family entertainer film ‘Rocky Aur Rani Ki Prem Kahani’. The film has been released today and apart from Ranveer-Alia, the most exciting thing about this film is the screen presence of the great actors of their time i.e. Dharmendra, Shabana Azmi and Jaya Bachchan. Ever since the song of this film came out, people on social media were complaining that the chemistry between Ranveer-Alia is not visible which should be there in a romantic film. But now this film of Karan Johar has been released and I am going to tell you whether this lack of chemistry and the lack of a good entertainer which the audience is feeling is fulfilled or not.

Relationship between Randhawa and Chatterjee
Talking about the story, Rocky Randhawa (Ranveer Singh) is a millionaire boy, who has a lot of money and a family business of sweets, of which he wants to become the CEO in the future. Rocky’s grandmother is Dhanalakshmi Randhawa (Jaya Bachchan), in whose house the daughters-in-law wear a dupatta on their head. Rocky’s grandfather (Dharmendra) is remembered sometimes and sometimes not, Daddy ji (Aamir Bashir) handles the entire business with his mother. On the other hand, there is Rani Chatterjee (Alia Bhatt), who is a journalist and a very educated, open-minded girl. Her father (Tota Roy Chowdhury) is a Kathak dancer-teacher and her mother (Churni Ganguly) is an English professor in DU. Rani’s Thakura, i.e. grandmother, is Gemini (Shabana Azmi) who is quite open-minded. This background itself makes it clear that these are two people from very different backgrounds. But then Rocky falls in love with Rani and this Punjabi boy falls in love with a Bengali girl. But before giving this relationship the name of marriage, Rani decides that Rocky will stay with her family and she will stay with Rocky’s family for 3 months. Now in the meantime, there is cultural exchange and a lot of fun. This is the part of this story that I can tell you and to know the rest of the twists and secrets, you will have to go to the cinemas.

Ranveer Singh and Alia have been seen together for the second time after ‘Gully Boy’.

Loud background music, frills, everything is available here
Director Karan Johar has his own way of telling stories and ‘Rocky Aur Rani..’ is no different. In this story of the world of the rich, money or spending is not an issue. Here the arena is also decorated with lights and in a colourful style. When Durga Puja takes place, the entire pandal and the people standing in it, all appear decorated in a red dress code. Everything in typical Karan Johar style… but with this it has to be said that Karan Johar knows what ingredients should be there in a family entertainer film. You will find all that in this film. There are many moments when you will laugh a lot, you will also clap. There are many such elements in this film which make this film worth going to the theatre and watching it. But today when you see so much rich content on OTT, you have become habituated to finding logic and finding flaws, which will make the lights of logic go off many times in this ride of entertainment.

An important film from Karan Johar’s quiver
Talking about the script, this time Karan Johar has chosen a subject which has been in constant discussion for some time. Girls becoming independent, girls speaking openly about their privacy after marriage and this is a good initiative. For years, girls who are independent and speak about their needs have been shown as vamps on screen. With examples like ‘Biwi Ho To Aisi’ and ‘Ghar Ho To Aisa’, only the ‘poor women’ wrapped in saree have been shown as good and cultured women. But now cinema has weighed this batch of independent women on the basis of humanity and this is a good thing. In ‘Tu Jhoothi Main Makkar’, the director has again taught a lesson of morality by explaining the ‘importance of family’ to Shraddha Kapoor who asks for her space, while this film of Karan Johar is far ahead of that. This gives Rani complete freedom to express her views.

Jaya Bachchan plays Ranveer Singh’s grandmother in the film.

‘Rocky Aur Rani Ki Prem Kahani’ actually shows the story of many couples of this country, in which while making love, there are promises like ‘I will bring the moon from the sky for you’ but after marriage, there is an unspoken condition that ‘If my mother likes this moon, then give it to her. You will have to make this much adjustment.’ Actually, in this way, despite all the shortcomings, it becomes an important film.

While talking about stereotypes, only stereotypes were shown
However, this film is not flawless. There are many places in the story that will bother you. Especially Alia Bhatt’s entry scene, in which she is seen as a journalist. This scene is quite awkward and far from reality. It will be digested the same way people digested the school in ‘Student of the Year’. Randhawas are shown as money-hungry, uncultured Punjabis, while Robind is shown as an over-minded Bengali who listens to music. Both these styles show many stereotypes. The first half of the story is full of comedy, while the second half is also full of emotions.

Talking about acting, Ranveer Singh has played a typical Delhi Punjabi boy, in which he looks amazing. Whenever Ranveer is on screen, no one is visible in front of him. Be it emotional scenes or comedy, his innocence is amazing. Alia looks very beautiful in the film. However, Ranveer has overshadowed her in most of the scenes. You will like Dharmendra and Shabana Azmi’s chemistry and the old songs. Jaya Bachchan has got a lot of screen space in the film, but she will be seen giving you ready looks everywhere.

Despite a lot of exaggerations, Karan Johar’s film is an entertainer, which has the full potential to bring the audience to the theatres and has the full intention to entertain them. However, its length is a bit too long and it could have been tightened, especially in the second half. 3 stars for this film from my side.
