Russia's biggest bombing on Ukraine, Kinjal missile fired on children's hospital in Kiev, 31 killed

Kyiv. Russia carried out missile attacks on various places in Ukraine, including the capital Kiev, killing at least 31 people and injuring 154. A children’s hospital building was also extensively damaged in the Russian attack. Officials gave this information.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky said in a statement posted on social media that Russian bombing targeted five Ukrainian cities with more than 40 missiles of various types, destroying residential buildings and public infrastructure.

Oleksandr Vilkul, the head of the city administration in Krivy Rih, said it was a massive missile attack that killed 10 people and injured 47 others. Local authorities also reported explosions in Ukraine’s central Dnipropetrovsk region.

Rescuers were searching for people under the rubble of the partially damaged building of Kiev’s Okhmatdyt Children’s Hospital, officials said. Mayor Vitali Klitschko said at least 16 people were injured, including seven children.

Officials said the two-story building of the children’s hospital was partially destroyed. Windows and doors of the main 10-story building of the hospital were shattered and walls were blackened. Zelensky said on social media, “It is very important that the world no longer remains silent about this and everyone should see what Russia is doing.”

The attack comes on the eve of a three-day NATO summit in the US. The summit will consider how to reassure Ukraine of the alliance’s unwavering support and give Ukrainians hope that their country can recover from Europe’s biggest conflict since World War II.

This was the biggest bombing of Kiev in the last several months. The Ukrainian Air Force said that the daylight attacks involved the Kinzhal hypersonic missile, one of the most advanced Russian weapons. Kinzhal flies at a speed of 10 times the speed of sound, making it difficult to intercept. The explosions shook the buildings of the city.

Ukraine’s security service said it found the wreckage of a Russian Kh-101 cruise missile at the scene and had opened proceedings on war crimes charges. Ukraine said it destroyed 11 of the 13 Kh-101 missiles fired on Monday.
