Meteorologists at the National Weather Service bureau in Romeoville have confirmed three EF-0 tornadoes, the least damaging types, touched down in the suburbs Sunday evening.
One was located near Elburn and two more in southern Cook County, officials at the weather service reported.
The twisters were reported just before 10 p.m., shortly after tornado warnings were issued at about 9:35 p.m.
Several roads in rural Kane County were closed Monday morning because of downed trees and electrical wires, including Meredith Road in Virgil and Pouley Road near Elburn.
ComEd was reporting outages in the area affecting more than 9,000 customers late Monday.

Meanwhile, more severe weather was predicted for late Monday and into Tuesday as well.
Forecasters warned Monday’s storms could produce significant hail, destructive winds and possibly more tornadoes.
Temperatures climbed into the 90s again Monday with heat indexes reaching into the 100s.
Tuesday, temperatures are only expected to get into the upper 80s, but expect high humidity again as more storms creep into the southern part of the suburbs.
The rest of the week, temperatures in the upper 70s and lower 80s are expected with no more rain in the forecast through Thursday.
