Ukraine crisis: More than 80 countries advocated for peace, 6 countries including India did not sign

Lucerne. A peace summit is being held on the Ukraine crisis in Lucerne, Switzerland. India refused to sign the joint statement related to it. Six more countries are involved with it. At the same time, India said that talks will continue to bring all stakeholders together for peace. Note that Russia, the other main party in the ongoing discussion aimed at ending the 2022 Russia-Ukraine war, is missing from the summit. The summit is being held at the Bergenstock resort in Switzerland and so far more than 80 countries have participated in it.

Apart from India, ministers from Saudi Arabia, South Africa, United Arab Emirates and Brazil did not sign the final document. Secretary (West) in the Ministry of External Affairs Pawan Kapoor represented India at the ‘Peace Summit’ on the Ukraine crisis. Kapoor said, ‘We believe that such peace requires bringing all stakeholders together and honest and practical engagement between the two parties involved in the conflict.’

Kapoor further said, “In our view, only those options can lead to lasting peace which are acceptable to both the parties. In line with this approach, we have decided to refrain from joining the joint communiqué or any other document emanating from the summit.” The summit concluded with dozens of countries expressing their support for Ukraine’s “territorial integrity” and calling for dialogue between all parties to find a lasting solution to the conflict.
