Mumbai. The Asian Football Confederation (AFC) on Monday formally announced India’s exit from the Women’s Asian Cup. The AFC also said that after the Indian team withdrew from the match against Chinese Taipei due to several cases of corona infection, all its matches will be considered cancelled. The Indian team was not in a position to field a full team against Chinese Taipei because 12 of its players have been infected with corona.

Asian Football Confederation A day later, the AFC confirmed in a statement that as per the guidelines, India will be considered to have withdrawn from the tournament. The AFC said, ‘After the cancellation of the Group-A match of the Women’s Asian Cup 2022 between Chinese Taipei and India, India will be considered to have withdrawn from the tournament as per Section 4.1 of the special rules applicable to AFC competitions amid the Corona epidemic.’

It said, ‘All the matches of India will now be considered cancelled.’ It also said that India’s only match against Iran will no longer be counted while preparing the final table of the group. India was in Group A with China, Chinese Taipei and Iran. Now only three teams will be considered in this group.

The statement said, ‘To avoid any possibility of bias in the final comparison among all the third placed teams, the matches of the first, second and third placed teams of Group B and C against the fourth placed team will not be counted.’
